Note: Instructions below are provided by CT Summation
There are different types of PDF file
formats being written by many different applications. Because so many
applications write PDF's it is difficult to tell what format the PDF file was
created in. The PDF file format that is compatible with Summation is the output
generated by printing the file to Acrobat Distiller. The best types of PDF file
formats to load and have searchable in Summation are:
PDF image only
PDF image + searchable text
PDF Normal
PDF with formatted text & graphics
Below are solutions for known issues with
regards to viewing and searching PDF's in your version of Summation.
Issues:
- The PDF file may be in an incompatible
format. (This results in the user being able to see some PDF files and not
others.)
- The Summation application may be
missing registry key and/or .DLL file.
(You are able to load
only some of your PDF files into Summation)
The PDF file may be in an
incompatible format. Opening a PDF file that Summation cannot read in Adobe and
using the Print to Distiller function will usually result in a PDF file that is
readable by Summation.
- Open the current PDF file in Adobe
Acrobat.
- Go the File --> Print.
- In the "Print dialog box", choose
"Acrobat Distiller".
(Leave the default settings in the Print dialog box and uncheck the options,
Reverse Pages, Print as Image and Print to File.)
- Reload the PDF images into Summation.
(After loading PDF
files you receive the message, "Error loading image file: SW Imaging Error:
20729".)
This error is displayed when
you install from the Client CD and it doesn't create a Lead Tools PDF key in the
Registry. (This key is required for viewing PDF files in the Summation® Blaze®
LG Product Line). The Lead Tools PDF key needs to be created in the Microsoft
Windows registry.
Warning:
The customer should
contact their System Administrator or Technical Support if not confident with
working in the registry. Be advised that any registry changes that are made
could potentially cause problems if they are not done correctly. Please pay
strict attention to the details provided.
- Verify that the file, LFPDF13N.DLL
exists in the system32 directory of the Operating System. (This file is
located in the system directory in Windows 98.)
- Check the existence of the registry
key in the following location: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LEAD TECHNOLOGIES,
INC.\PDF\GS_LIB"
- Click Start > Run > Type "Regedit"
then click OK
- Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and
select the Software key
- Right click on "Software", then select
"New", and choose "Key" and name it: "LEAD Technologies, Inc." (Notice a
period after the word, "Inc.").
This creates a new registry key called "Lead Technologies, Inc."
- After the LEAD Technologies, Inc. key
is created, create a key inside the "LEAD Technologies, Inc." key. Point and
right click on "LEAD Technologies, Inc." and select "New", then choose "Key"
and name it "PDF".
- Inside "PDF" Key, create a "String
Value" and name it "GS_LIB". Point and right click on "PDF" Key, select "New"
and choose "String Value". (Note the underscore character between GS and LIB)
- Double click on the "GS_LIB" and an
"Edit String" dialog box is displayed.
- In the "Value Data" field, enter the
following values, "X:\Dir\PDF\LIB;X:\Dir\PDF\FONTS", where "X:" is the network
drive where Summation is installed and "Dir" is the network Summation program
directory. For example, "M:\iBlaze20\PDF\LIB;M:\iBlaze2.0\PDF\FONTS"
- Click OK to save the changes
